Firefox Search for East Bonner County Library

A little love here for the East Bonner County Free Library District. Today I realized that every time I need to search for a book at the library, I Google for the location of the library site since I can never remember what the address is. I then click on the "Catalog" link and proceed to search. Then a light bulb went off! I love my little search bar I use in Mozilla Firefox. Being the geek I am, I decided to create a search for it. Props go to Martin for creating the icon.

To install the search, click the link below:
East Bonner County Library Search Install

You'll get a pop-up that looks like this:

Add EBCL Search

Just click add and your book searching life will be transformed.

Email me if you have any issues. And NO, this will not work in IE7. Microsoft in all their infinite wisdom decided to not allow use of form POST, so it will not work. That's great though. Yet another point to illustrate the superiority of Firefox.

Enjoy!

It's just as easy to make one that works in both IE7 and Firefox. Please look at http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Creating_OpenSearch_plugins_for_Firefox -- "Firefox 2 supports the OpenSearch description format for search plugins. Plugins that use the OpenSearch description syntax are compatible with IE 7 and Firefox. Because of this, they are the recommended format for use on the web."

This is actually in OpenSearch format. I'll email and ask how it's proposed that I use POST.

BUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh man, gotta wub the MSDN blogger troll - that's classic. I use FireFox, as any sane person would, but, just for giggles, I went ahead and downloaded IE 7. In fact, I'm using it now. Can't say that I'm all that impressed. clunky interface, incomplete features - oh, and when I try to add Wendall's goodness, I get:

"Internet Explorer doesn't not support this type of search provider"

That's good stuff! Really, though, I go to MicroSoft's website, and it says it supports plun-ins? Do they have to be certifited first? Because that would make sense, given Microsoft's current stragety with Vista. Keep trying, Microsoft, mabye one day you'll figure it out!
